Janice Lee is a spoken-word artist, a singer-songwriter and a community activist who lives in Kitchener.
She moved to Waterloo Region to attend Wilfrid Laurier University after growing up with her Korean immigrant parents in and around Toronto. "All of the most important relationships I have are here and all the projects I find most important are here. I make my art here."
Lee is one of the founding members of the KW Poetry Slam, an organization that rose out of a series of social justice events where people could perform poems that spoke to the subject. "We realized there was a need for a continual stage for poetry to be read and performed. We started the KW Poetry Slam and made it a consistent thing. We wanted to create this space where people could share and build a community around that poetry"
She recently returned from a cross-country tour and is still living and slamming in KW.
I've been a photojournalist at The Record since 1997. I started shooting videos a couple of years ago and, despite a steep learning curve, I've figured out how to press record.
