I think the beauty of the Canada Goose in the wild is somewhat overshadowed by their presence in urban settings, such as community parks and university campuses. These unmistakable birds are considered more of a pesky nuisance at urban locations. After encountering the mess that a large group of geese can leave on a lawn, I can understand the sentiment. The chance to observe these birds in a totally different setting is a pleasure. Seeing the familiar V pattern of a migrating flock as they announce their arrival with a loud honking is a favourite part of Autumn for me. I have also had the chance to witness their use and enjoyment of a spectacular local resource...The Grand River. Whether it's geese floating on the shimmering waters under a late day sun or the powerful grace they display touching down on the surface of the water, I think they enhance the Grand.
