I was frustrated today shooting pictures on the Grand. I just seemed to be missing so many chances. For example I saw three different types of butterflies including a swallow tail, a favorite of mine. After trying to use my ninja-like skills to try and get close I startled each one... must be rusty. Each time I was either too far away or too slow to capture any of the trio of fluttering beauties. I soon came across a pair of snapping turtles but they were well hidden in clumps of reeds and too obscured for a good picture.
I was walking back along the trail feeling defeated when I noticed a couple of purple iris plants in a small bond on the river's bank. I had just got set up when a couple of different bees joined the party. I managed to include the smaller bee in the picture. The larger bumble bee is out of focus above the first bee hanging on a petal.
On the way back to my car I started thinking that even if I hadn't managed to come back with a picture today it was still great to be near the river. Feeling that first warm breeze on the summer solstice, looking out at the water was something special.
