Forests have been felled over the demise of Hockey Night In Canada’s theme music.
To trot out a relatively old expression: Get a life, people.
It’s a tune. There will be others. This is about as nonsensical as people getting worked up over TV play-by-play men or other such commentators. Remember the to-do a few years ago when Hockey Night’s Ron MacLean was embroiled in a contract dispute? People were getting all worked up over whether some guy (MacLean) should get approaching a million dollars or whatever annually to serve as Don Cherry’s weekly punching bag/enabler.
The folks — editorial writers (Globe and Mail excepted from what I've seen), commentators and letters to the editor writers — should relax and realize this is much ado about essentially nothing (which makes me wonder why I’m even commenting on it).
Besides which, with regard to the “contest” CBC will apparently be running to replace the theme music, can there be any other replacement than Stompin’ Tom Connors’ The Hockey Song?
End of debate. Let’s move on.
