I'll be baaa-aack

Feels like months since I've posted yet it's just two weeks or so.

I will return. Fact is, I have a host of marked-up newspapers sitting at the desk with "gotta comment on this" scribbled in. Sports, rock and roll, politics, etc. Just dying to comment and hey, even if late, where else will you get the Blogovich treatment?

Trouble is, we're on a new computer system at work and in my real life (sometimes I wish this was my real life, just writing) as online editor of www.therecord.com I have been consumed with launch issues.

And then as of Aug. 3, I will be on vacation (a constant commenter, you know who you are and I so do appreciate the loyalty, not making sport of you, but your name escapes me at the moment, once commented that I seem to have lots of vac days; hey, been here 17 years hence 5 weeks annually) through Aug. 16. But chances are, if I'm in the mood, I'll actually have more time to blog while away. And may do. Or more likely, not. I mean, get a life, right?

At any rate, just a quick, self-indulgent post to say, hang in Led Zep fans, sports fans, etc. Blogovich shall return at some point or other.

See you either this week at some point if the mood (always there) or time permits (not always possible), or after Aug. 16.

Stop the presses: NHL schedule released

Item No. 2 on The Score sports highlight broadcast tonight and, I imagine, fairly high on the roster of the other sports, er, highlight, shows.

The release of the NHL schedule. Woooheee! They highlighted some, alleged, key games, as if we can't figure it out for ourselves or, better yet, figure it out based on the standings at a given point in time next season.

The release of a schedule is a story? News? Talk about press-release journalism. Where's the critical editorial thinking? Throw it on the sports scoreboard page and be done with it (even so, who'll remember; put it on the scoreboard page when the season is about to begin).

No wonder traditional media is in trouble.

Golfers need some new media material

Just caught a bit of pre-British Open golf tournament interviews. Tiger Woods and others were discussing the importance of keeping the ball in the fairway, having a consistent short game and putting well.

Hmm. Isn't it ever thus in golf?

Why bother with this nonsense?

The freeloading royals try to freeload more

Keeled over laughing when I read this story last week about how the Queen needs a bailout.

It seems things aren't rosy in Royal-land. The funds are drying up and apparently Queen Lizzy needs a boost of perhaps $7.6M from British taxpayers.

Hmm, maybe the royals ought to actually work for a living?

It's always been beyond me why the Brits tolerate - even celebrate - this utter nonsense. We Canadians, too.

Apparently, what the Brits pay now amounts to $1.32 per taxpayer (it's all in the linked story) which doesn't seem like much. Unless one is into principles.
