As I was saying, it's always dangerous to judge an album on one listen.
So I mustered up the courage and took the new/old Van Halen album - A Different Kind of Truth - with David Lee Roth on lead vocals out for a test drive on second listen. Yeah. In the car. The way albums should be heard. So after 1.5 listens, or thereabouts, managed five tracks during my trip out to get food, this one has a chance. A good chance. It kinda smokes! It's embedding itself in my brain.
So I'm liking "She's the Woman" "You and Your Blues", "Chinatown" and "Bullethead" so far as these new/old tunes take shape in my mind. And boy, isn't it a good thing they reworked old tunes rather than trying to write new ones?
So, it's got a chance, this new Van Halen vehicle. But only in the car. Do not listen at home.
