The Montreal Canadiens just held a pre-game ceremony honouring NHL linesman Pierre Champoux's 1,500th NHL game.
He's working tonight's Canadiens-Minnesota Wild game.
Honouring a LINESMAN??!! ? What? Why? Sorry, but . . . was this mandated by the NHL? If so, if not, whoever has GOT to be kidding but obviously not. If I didn't see it with my own eyes . . .
Hey, good for you, Pierre, for dropping the puck, calling offsides and/or breaking up fights 55,000 times or whatever. But, well, c'mon. Even you looked embarrassed. Shoulda been strong and said, er, 'no, not doing this.'
Ridiculous. How far the Habs have fallen if the well is so dry (pretty much dried up after the 1970s) that the former Flying Frenchmen are reduced to honouring French-Canadien linesmen, And nothing against Champoux. Or hockey linesmen. But, you get feted for essentially showing up for work?
I just don't get it.
