I've been on a lot of comment boards during the Stanley Cup playoffs and as usual folks are lamenting the fact we have NHL hockey in June.
Well, here's the solution. And no, as some propose, go back to best-of-five first-round series.
It's pretty simple, really. Start training camps in late August, shorten the pre-season (for instance last year the Toronto Maple Leafs played six pre-season games beginning Sept. 21), begin the regular season in late September as does junior hockey, play four games in five nights to open the first playoff round as was done in the early 1970s and be done the Cup final by end of May at latest.
After all, during the 1972 Canada-Soviet series and subsequent Canada Cups, training camp was in August and games in September so it's not like my proposal is out of the ordinary.
Let's do it.
