We were leaving the tent camp across the street from La Paix hospital when he heard loud chanting comming from inside one of the tarped buildings. There, we found Marie-Angela Jabrun and Bellegard Osnel singing from a torn hymn book.
They kept time by clapping their hands and tapping a wooden table, and their call-and-answer singing sounded like nothing I'd ever heard before. They were praising God. Jabrun says she's fasting - she's troubled, she said - and the daily chants make her feel better.
"I can't pass the day without it," she said, out of breath and sweating.
