A new school opened up in York Region, one devoted entirely to varsity sports.
It's called Bill Crothers Secondary in Markham and students attending can compete in 26 different sports, including equestrian, downhill skiing and cycling among others.
There is also a component for kids who want to work in sports related fields down the road. You know, stuff like sports medicine, coaching and support staff.
It's a pretty cool idea in my eyes. And before you get worried that Crothers will dominate OFSAA, don't fret. Kids there will likely be involved with elite teams and on the road too much to battle other high schools.
It got me wondering if this region could support something like this. Amateur sport is big here and the area is growing like mad. Imagine being able to attend an all-sports high school, say on the outskirts of town?
Certainly a sports junkie's dream. It would need a name though. And Waterloo Region doesn't have a shortage of famous athletes.
Two that jump to mind are Lennox Lewis High and Milton Conrad Schmidt Secondary.
