Junior domination

I was perusing some national junior sports websites and was impressed by the local contingent among the lot.

Take a look at some of the names I found on Canadian junior squads in various sports - many of whom played local high school sports.

This was just a quick look, so I'm sure there are more. If so, add them in the comments section.

Player -- National team -- former/current school:

Murphy Burnatowski, basketball, SJAM

Steve Gross, wrestling, Monsignor Doyle

Beck Pavan, volleyball, Forest Heights

Jeff Hunt, baseball, St. Benedict

Tanner Nivins, baseball, St. Mary's

Steph LeClair, softball, Forest Heights

Nick Hignell, field hockey, Resurrection

Alyssa Lagonia, soccer, Grand River

Joren Zeeman, volleyball, Woodland Christian

to the calm down guy.......not sad or depressed and just so you know i'm not boasting about what he has done and could care less if your impressed or not. i just felt it was a snub and didn't like it. i feel local atheletes who reach this level should be recognized on an equal level as it has taken a lot of hard work and effort on the part of parent(s) and son or daughter. i am satisfied with josh's response unlike yours, but you have a right to say what you think even if you are wrong. have a nice day!

I threw out the word to a bunch of minor sports teams and some teachers and these are the names I got back.

With spring commitments still to come, I will probably do another roundup later in the year that will also include any winter commitments that I missed.

Enjoy the weekend.

Josh

tanner nivins is a monster. all around great athlete

Buddy, is your sad depressed he was not mentioned? Becuase it sounds more or less like people aren't going to reconize who your son is, making you feel proud your his father. There is no need to boast about what your child has done. Congrats, im glad for him that he did receive a scholarship, thats amazing, however the fact your whining that he wasn't mentioned is quite pathetic.

just want to thankyou for omitting my sons name from list of local students going south on scholarships. he was mentioned in an article in the record with mitch clark about them both getting scholarships. i was not impressed with the small article written by one of your sports writers. when two boys who play triple "A" together for 7+ years in the kmba and end up being scholarshipped the same year to the usa they should get a little more than a few paragraphs in the"in brief" part of your sports section. refer to the great article written by helen hall in the local "community news" paper from the first wed. in dec. and recently in the doon version of that paper this past wed. in case you want to mention my sons name in another edition of your paper his name is ben tinklin and got a full ride to kaskaskia college, a division 1 junior college in illinois.

Charnuski is a definately. Making it to the Junior Pan American Games, has got to be reconized!
