Here's why you never leave a high school game early.
Senior boys basketball -- Grand River 61, Forest Heights 60. Double overtime.
There were so many dramatic moments, it's hard to remember them all.
First, let me say, that this was one of the worst games I've ever watched up until 20 seconds to go in the fourth quarter.
At half, it was 14-9 Grand River. Forest Heights, the defending champs, scored just four points in the first quarter and five in the second. The pace was slow and guys weren't hustling. It was just bad basketball.
Third quarter was all Forest. Fourth all Grand.
Then, with 20 seconds left everything changed.
Forest is up by a bucket and Vlado Jovicic charges the lane for Grand River to tie it up but is fouled on the play. He sinks the shot, 44-43 Grand River. Nine seconds left in the game.
Forest runs down court, Srdjan Stanivuk is fouled on a shot with 2.1 seconds left. He hits the first one to tie it 44-44, misses the second.
Off to OT. Forest goes up 52-51, Grand has the ball, with mere tenths of a second on the clock, Jose Colorado shoots, misses, but is fouled. He nails one of his free throws to tie it up at 52.
Off to double OT. This time Grand is ahead 59-57 with 7.1 seconds left. Dahlin Brooks sinks a bucket to tie the game, but is fouled. He buries the foul shot. Forest up by one 60-59.
Last chance for Grand River in double OT with 5.9 seconds left. The ball goes down court, Nick Matsias finds some room, drives and cashes in a lay-up. The ball falls through with 0.1 seconds to go.
Grand River wins. Players go nuts. The madness ends. The Rens take out the defending champs to improve to 4-3. Forest Heights' 5-game winning streak ends.
Man, what a game.
As for the rest of the action... WCSSAA scoreboard.
"Galt doesn't play all of the AAAA teams do they?"
Galt avoids playing Grand River, SJAM and WCI this season. All of whom are Quad-A.

Josh,
I think that you should do a story on the crazy amount of serbians in WCSSAA. There are consistantley serbs listed as top scorers for many teams in both jr. and sr basketball. I think a story about that would be great for the city, as there are many serbians here. You did a good one with the "serb" five but I think you should highlight all serbs around the league.

we got to give props to Galt for their outstanding play thus far into the season.
should be an interesting game on Tuesday as they host Forest Heights

I agree with JR. What happened with the other games? Galt doesn't play all of the AAAA teams do they?

Disappointing that only four basketball scores were reported.
We're missing Southwood/KCI, WCI/Eastwood and Huron Heights/Jacob Hespeler.
Please post if you have info.

Definitely a shocker there.
There's going to be a huge logjam of 5-2 and 4-3 teams.

14-9 halftime score? Wow. Sounds like a great finish though!
....this should continue to make the senior boys standings a complete mess! FHCI will drop down, Galt by themselves in 2nd, who would have thought that 7 games into the season?
