I've never mentioned equestrian riders before, but there's a first time for everything.
Four local girls competed at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto over the weekend with some solid results.
St. Agatha's Paige Grant (Resurrection) took first overall in the large pony division, a class of 18 riders. With her pony Westwin, she had first-, second- and third-place finishes to finish first overall.
Wellesley's Taylor Blackwell (Waterloo-Oxford), aboard No Worries, was fourth overall in the medium pony division, with ninth-, second- and fourth-place finishes. There were 18 riders in the division.
Grant and Blackwell qualified for the Grand Pony Classic and finished second and seventh respectively in a field of 12 riders.
Kitchener's Rachel Schnurr (St. David) rode Woodstock to Reserve Champion in the junior working hunter division, and Kitchener's Megan Bacso (KCI) rode Time Square was first of 18 riders in the children hunter division.
All four board at Windamere Stables in Baden.
Thanks to Tara Schneider for pointing this out.
