In case you missed it, the St. Benedict Saints captured the District 8 senior girls basketball championship Monday night with a 43-31 win over the Woodland Cavaliers.
Due to earlier press deadlines that came into place last week, many night games will now only appear on the Record website and that was the case with this one.
The WCSSAA senior final between the Waterloo-Oxford Crusaders and Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders will also receive website-only treatment. Look for tonight's story to appear before 11 p.m.
The WCSSAA boys volleyball championships were also staged Monday night and by all accounts, both games were thrillers.
The Preston Panthers roared back to score a 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-10) win over the Bluevale Knights in the senior final and the Grand River Renegades defeated the Jacob Hespeler Hawks 3-2 (19-17 in fifth set) in the junior final.
Did you know the Forest Heights Trojans had already qualified for the OFSAA triple-A boys volleyball championship?
The OFSAA tournament is coming to Waterloo Region next week and the Trojans snagged the host entry ahead of the Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders, who were also in the running.
Forest Heights beat SJAM during the regular season and also went deeper in the playoffs.
The second local entry will be determined later this week when Preston and Bluevale go up against St. Benedict, Guelph John F. Ross, Owen Sound DSS and Brantford North Park at Friday's CWOSSA championship.
