High school sports are set to resume next week after a lengthy break with WCSSAA and District 8 competitions starting up in track and field, rugby and soccer. Most schedules are now available at wcssaa.ca and district8.ca.
The family of former Eastwood student Lam Diing will receive friends next Thursday and Friday (5 to 9 p.m.) at the Henry Walser Funeral Home. Here's a link to his death notice.
A talented receiver at Eastwood who moved on to the University of Waterloo Warriors, Diing died on the weekend as the result of a tragic stabbing incident.
Friends remember him as being a hard worker with a great smile. He was featured in this blog in 2013 (photo above) for scoring three touchdowns for Eastwood in a 40-0 win over Grand River.
Coincidentally, future UW football teammates Brandon Metz and Mitch Kernick were featured in the same blog.
The CWOSSA badminton championships are underway today (Thursday) at the University of Waterloo.
The senior finalists in each event advance to the May 3-5 OFSAA championship in Windsor.
In case you missed it, the WCSSAA senior boys rugby league is down to three teams this year.
Here's a link to a recent story that looks at the possible reasons why.
