All week the cup handlers have been carefully carrying the cup wearing white gloves and keeping a firm hold on it. Sometimes for ceremony they pass it off to disciplined soldiers to transport the cup at events.

Then they give it to some sweaty hockey players after they win the tournament who, along with their butterfingers, drop it at the first opportunity. They're just lucky it isn't the real cup.
You can read about it in the live blog commentary on the final game.

He did not drop it. In numerous videos as evidence you can see that the cup SNAPPED IN HALF! Dont blame the Captain or team for breaking the cup.

Way to go Champion Chiefs! I also saw the replays of the handling of the Memorial Cup and it did snap off in his hands. "The Cup Broke While In His Hands", not after it hit the ice. I do not get what people are talking about when trying to scrutinize how many Canadian born Canadians are on the Spokane Team, how many Americans, Europeans, etc..... What the hell difference does it make as long as they are elligible to play in this league regardless of where they are from or were born. It should only be about if they are good enough to be in the league and earn their way here. Grow up people! Kudos to Kitchener for putting on a great tournament and putting such a fine squad on the ice this season. By the way, the CUP was all back in one piece at the Chiefs Welcome Home Rally yesterday, which drew about 4,000 screaming fans Chiefs Fans. It was a tremendous Homecoming and we cannot wait til next year. GO CHIEFS GO!
