BARRIE - The Baycats broke open a 1-1 tie with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to drop the Kitchener Panthers 7-1 Tuesday night.
It was the fourth straight win for Barrie who improved to 8-6 on the season, just one game back of the now-third place Panthers (8-4). The loss pushed the London Majors past Kitchener to claim second spot in the IBL standings.
Barrie reliever Josh Soffer earned the win, coming on in the sixth and allowing just one hit and one walk with one strikeout over two scoreless innings.
Jeff Cowan and Jason Coker each had three-run home runs in the sixth inning to propel the Baycats to victory, while Kyle DeGrace doubled, scored and drove in a run. Ryan Spataro had a pair of hits and a pair of runs scored, while Brandon Dhue, Ryan Asis and Kevin Atkinson each added hits, with Atkinson also scoring a run in the win.
Panthers starter Mike McGillivray took the loss, allowing six hits and four earned runs with six walks over five and a third innings.
Iggy Villalobos singled, doubled and drove in a run, while Mike Glinka and Darnell Duckett each had a pair of hits with Duckett adding a run scored. Bryon Bell and Keith Kandel rounded out the Kitchener attack with a hit apiece.
