KITCHENER – Jeff Pietraszko hit a sacrifice fly to left field with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to tie their game with the London Majors 4-4, then Tanner Nivins hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th to score Iggy Villalobos and give the Panthers a 5-4 victory in one of two games played in the Intercounty Baseball League on Tuesday night.
The Panthers trailed 4-1 in the third inning before chipping away with single runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, then completed the comeback in the ninth inning.
It was the second straight win for the third place Panthers (12-9), while the Majors (15-9) dropped their second straight, leading Kitchener by just a game and a half now in the IBL standings. The Panthers managed the victory despite committing four errors on the night.
Shawn Slemko was the fifth Kitchener pitcher of the night and earned the win, pitching a hitless and scoreless tenth inning.
Jacob Raffaele took the loss, allowing two hits and one earned run with one walk and one strikeout in the 10th, registering two outs.
Nivins finished the night with two RBI and a run scored for Kitchener, while Pietraszko singled and doubled with an RBI. Rick Murray singled and doubled with two runs scored, and Darnell Duckett doubled and drove in a run. Keith Kandel and Mike Andrulis each singled with Andrulis also adding a run scored.
For the Majors, Paul Lytwynek had two of London’s seven hits with a run scored, while Cleveland Brownlee homered and drove in a pair of runs. Ryan Lapensee singled, scored and added an RBI, while Larry Balkwill and Derrik Strzalkowski each singled. Jon Celestino singled and scored to round out the London offence.
The Panthers' next home game is Thursday at 7:30 pm against the Hamilton Cardinals.
