Kitchener Rangers defenceman Ryan Murphy was one of 28 players named to represent Canada in the upcoming Canada-Russia Challenge.
The event is in lieu of a world junior hockey camp.
Kitchener's Mark Scheifele, of the Barrie Colts, also made the cut while Rangers' coach Steve Spott was named bench boss for the squad last month.
The four-game series runs Aug. 9-10 in Russia and Aug. 13-14 in Halifax.
Players who were not invited will be monitored throughout the season and can still earn invites to the December camp for the world junior hockey championships.
