It's not good news for Kitchener Rangers winger Tobias Rieder (centre of photo).
He has yet to skate since suffering a fractured foot against Windsor last week. The injury has put his world junior championship status with Germany up in the air.
It would be a huge blow to the Germans, who are back in the top pool after being relegated last year. Rieder led the charge to get his country to the main tourney by scoring 13 points in five games in the Division 1 finals last winter.
Goalie John Gibson plans to be in net for the U.S., even though he's been battling a hip flexor. He's also hoping to sneak into Sunday's game against Ottawa before he leaves for the American camp.
Regardless, Rieder, Gibson, centre Radek Faksa, GM/coach Steve Spott and blueliner Ryan Murphy will be gone by Monday, leaving the Rangers shorthanded until early January.
