Blueliner Dmitrii Sergeev is getting closer to returning to game action.
The Russian rookie hasn't suited up for the Kitchener Rangers since Oct. 25 against Windsor. He's missed five games with a hip/groin issue.
He didn't practise with the club yesterday but did skate after the workout on his own. Coach Troy Smith says he's improving and that he hopes to see the rearguard, perhaps, as soon as this weekend.
Sergeev in pointless in 10 games and minus-3. His return, along with that of Evan McEneny, would give the team seven blueliners on the big club with Logan Schmidt in Jr. B.
