The former Kitchener Rangers GM/coach has left his post as coach of the AHL's Toronto Marlies for a job as an assistant coach with the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs.
Spott left the OHL last summer to take the Marlies gig and will now work under Buds' boss Randy Carlyle. The club also hired Peter Horachek - who has worked behind the bench with Nashville and Florida - as an assistant.
For Spott, it's a bit of a dream job. He's always had an affinity with his hometown and made no secret that he wants to work in the NHL. He has a good track record of developing players and took the Marlies to the AHL semis this past season.
