The Kitchener Rangers goalie shutout his hometown Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 3-0 Monday night at the Aud to help the Blueshirts get back in the Ontario Hockey League western final.
The overage netminder made 24 saves as the Soo was held off the scoreboard for the first time this season.
It was impressive stuff, just don't tell Greyhounds coach Drew Bannister.
"It was an easy night for Mario," he said. "I think I could have played net and got a shutout tonight for the Kitchener Rangers. Offensively we made it easy on him. There was no traffic in front of him."
Perhaps, but Culina has clearly stymied the Soo by allowing just five goals through three games in the conference championship.
It was a busy Monday. Here are a couple more stories from the Rangers-Soo series.
