If you want to contribute to the cycling future of Kitchener, you will want to make time on Saturday, Nov. 21 to attend the first Cycling Master Plan information sessions open to the public.
There will be one at the Kitchener Market, 300 King St. E., from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and another at the Activa Sportsplex, 135 Lennox Lewis Way (just north of St. Mary's High School on Block Line Road), from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The intention is to develop a master plan that will include policies and design standards that will consider the needs of recreational and commuting cyclists. These are the policies that cyclists need in place to ensure that they will have the kind of infrastructure that makes cycling doable in our future walkable/bikeable city. Without policies, every bike lane, every sign, every bike rack, becomes a budget item to be fought over and, often, dropped as a "frill." With policies, they can become the essential components of our future city.
If you cannot attend one of the two sessions, you can contribute to the debate at www.kitchener.ca, at 519-741-2232 or by TTY at 1-866-969-9994.
And of course, you can contribute to the debate right here. Coment, contemplate, contribute.
