While I applaud this idea from the Lifehacker website for incorporating flashing LED lights into a cycling jacket, I would recommend something that looks more like an arrow, if the intention is to indicate turns.
Having said that, anything that makes a cyclist more visible at night is a good thing.

Sometimes I just have to laugh as the well-intentioned yet poorly-implemented and demonstrated ideas.

Let's see, we're going to be riding a night, so let's start with a black hoodie. Right.

Now that we're invisible in the dark, let's put a very small cluster of lights on the back that blink a bit. From a distance, they just look like a blinking point source, in distinguishable in left vs right side of the black hoodie.

Now we're sure we're safe, so let's go cruise the dark streets.
