Former Kitchener denizen and computer wunderkind Rob Salmond is doing what many of us wish we could do: he's quit his job, disposed of most of his possessions, acquired a bicycle and bike trailer and has embarked on a cross-country odyssey to, as he says in his blog, "meet people, make friends, and try to make myself useful."
Part of that will be using his computer knowledge along the way. If you live between Toronto and Victoria, B.C. and need some kind of computer assistance, Salmond is willing to trade food and shelter for his know-how.
Salmond was a familiar face around the Bean household about 15 years ago, when he was bored with high school and fascinated by the digital age. He was spoken of reverently in the geek community as "the one who knows code."
He set out this weekend, riding with a friend. He'll be updating his adventure when he can. At the moment, it seems like Facebook is a good bet to reach him.
