On Friday, the last day of Velo-city Global 2012, all delegates will be invited to sign the Charter of Vancouver on 'Children and Cycling.'
It's an ambitious petition to the United Nations to ask that cycling and cycling skills training be considered a global goal, a part of the UN's stated goal of lifting children of all incomes and backgrounds, by giving them the fundamental freedom of individual mobility.
It might seem like a pipe dream, getting the world to agree on this at a time when it seems difficult to get something as simple as a separated bike lane in an affluent city, but we dream every night.
Why not dream this one?
It is a nice dream. Educated cyclists starting from childhood is, in my opinion, the only way to really change anything. As you intimated, I'm not holding my breath.
