A 20-year-old woman was killed around 1 p.m. today on Highway 7 near Okotoks, Alta., when she apparently swerved into the traffic lane and was struck by an overtaking motorist.
The various news reports are unclear about why she swerved, with The Canadian Press report among those suggesting she lost control of her bicycle. Several of the reporting agencies said she was riding with her father at the time. The RCMP are looking for witnesses in the case.

It is so easy for cars passing too close to cause cyclists to swerve, especially in high cross winds. Unfortunate that this story blames the cyclist for swerving rather than considering that the car may have passed too closely.
