That's a Japanese made Crane bell, they are quite loud and "rich-sounding". I don't recall seeing them for sale at any of the LBS but they are all over the internet.

Crane Suzu Lever Strike Brass Bell?
If so, it's available on Amazon for $15.

If anyone has any recommendations for a good loud bell, I'd love to hear it. I'm especially interested in anything that works at least semi-decently in the rain. I have a cheap black one that becomes absolutely silent when wet.

this one works well for cars and iphones (laurel trail along the university is particularly hazardous)

Bells are great for warning people and pets to get out of the way, to let someone know that you’ve arrived or just for attention.
The bell has a good ring to it and is easily heard at a distance while on the road. The mechanics are very simple though, you basically pull back the thumb hammer and release. Works good enough. It is very adjustable which is nice for positioning it just where you want it.

Try an 80 mm Ding Dong bell. They are pretty good at getting black bears up to warp speed in a desirable direction. I got mine at Downs Hardware in Southampton. Martins Bike Store also in Southampton had them too. A number of suppliers are on the internet.
