If you are free Thursday between 12:15 p.m. and about 1 p.m., you might come out to Kitchener City Hall for the Coldest Bike Ride of the Year. Riders of all abilities will ride from Kitchener City Hall to Waterloo City Hall.
There's a Facebook page if you want to go through the formalities of signing up. The KW Bike Polo people have invited their members to join, and bring their mallets for an impromptu game of shinny.
Unlike Toronto's Coldest Bike Ride of the Year, which was held on Jan. 30 in record-breaking warm temperatures -- it hit 14C that day and some of the riders wore shorts -- Waterloo Region's Coldest Bike Ride of the Year (as determined by average temperatures compiled from the University of Waterloo weather station) will actually be held in winter weather. The predicted high is minus 3C, and the weather gods are saying there should be light snow to begin the day with heavy snow by afternoon.
If you're hesitant about winter riding, here's a chance to ride with a bike-friendly group.

Thanks for getting the word out!!

Am here in Calgary now with winters that fall to -25 to -30 degrees C. We consider -15 degrees C decent winter cycling. And for me, without much ice and snow. The prairie dry air sucks up slushy snow faster than in Ontario or Vancouver BC.
Here's Jack's opinion:

The City of Calgary does a pretty good job of keeping the main bike paths snow free.
