Just a reminder that you have about a week left to respond to the Region of Waterloo survey about proposed cycling lanes on both sides of Ottawa Street from Imperial Drive (at the expressway overpass) to Mill Street.
The survey is available at this regional site, click on "link to complete survey" to get to the detailed info on the types of cycling lanes that are proposed, and the survey itself.
If you ride from southwest Kitchener to the downtown, you know that Ottawa Street is a choke point. It's a dodgy area for cyclists because of the downhill toward the expressway and the sharp turn that hides cyclists from overtaking traffic.
The road-fearful only have a short stretch where there are sidewalks, and are forced to ride on a dirt path worn through the lawns of the homes along the one side of the street. Then sidewalks pick up again near Imperial and continue all the way to Westmount.
The survey closes at Oct. 1.
