Baycats take 2-0 lead in IBL final

KITCHENER – More than 1,200 fans packed Jack Couch Park and saw the Barrie Baycats take a two-game lead in the IBL final with a 13-4 win over the Kitchener Panthers Saturday night. 

Game 3 is Sunday night in Barrie. The series returns to Kitchener on Tuesday night.

Kevin Atkinson went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs for the Baycats. Jeff Cowan and Branfy Infante each singled twice and drove in a run, while Kyle DeGrace and Conner Morro had an RBI and two runs apiece. Jordan Castaldo singled twice and scored three times.

Matthew St. Kitts (1-0) allowed four runs on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Yorbis Borroto hit a grand slam to lead the Panthers' offence. Justin Interisano singled three times and scored once.

Jasvir Rakkar (3-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits in six innings. Only two of the runs were earned as Kitchener made six errors. Rakkar walked three and struck out seven.
