BRANTFORD - The Brantford Red Sox have announced that Kevin Hussey will be the team’s field manager for the 2018 Intercounty Baseball League season.
Hussey, the former manager of the Burlington Herd, takes over from Wayne Forman, who quit after one season. Forman, who won seven IBL championships as a catcher with the Red Sox, left after Brantford struggled through the 2018 campaign.
“The reason that I took this position was to maintain some integrity of the Red Sox dynasty,” Forman told the Brantford Expositor.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself to do that but I came to the realization that those days are gone. I needed to step back and prioritize what the most important things in my life were and that was my young family."
Hussey inherits a Brantford team that went 13-23 last season, before getting swept in the playoffs by the Kitchener Panthers. Under his watch in 2018, Burlington finished in last place with a 12-24 record.
Hussey is a former player who has extensive college coaching experience, including at Chicago State University, Cardinal Stritch University and University of Toronto.
His former team, the Herd, are moving to Welland, Ont. for the 2019 season, as part of their transformation into the Jackfish.
