The Kitchener Rangers have acquired overage defenceman Brian Brosnan from the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for a pair of draft picks.
Brosnan (6-foot-3, 205 pounds) played the past two seasons for the 'Dogs and had four goals and eight assists in 53 games this past campaign. He is also a distant relative of associate coach Mike Van Ryn.
The Rangers sent a fourth round pick in 2016 and a fifth round selection in 2018 to Niagara in the deal.
The 20-year-old joins forward Brandon Robinson and goalie Matt Greenfield as overage players on Kitchener's roster. OHL teams can dress three OAs per game.
Brosnan's addition gives the defensive unit some depth and leadership after the departure of captain Liam Maaskant and fellow blueliner Max Iafrate, both of whom graduated from the league.
As it stands now, Kitchener has Brosnan, Frank Hora, Doug Blaisdell, Dmitrii Sergeev, Dylan Di Perna, Sean Allen, Connor Hall and Elijah Roberts in the back end.
