Former Kitchener Rangers coach Mike Van Ryn is headed back behind the bench.
The London native was named head coach of the American Hockey League's Tucson Roadrunners on Wednesday. The Roadrunners are the minor-league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Arizona Coyotes.
Van Ryn joined the Rangers in 2013 as an associate coach and was promoted to head coach after two years. He spent one season as the skipper and guided the Blueshirts to a record of 44-17-5-2 which was good for fourth overall in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Florida resident left the team last year for family reasons and spent this past season as a development coach with the Coyotes.
John Slaney and Steve Potvin were named assistant coaches to Van Ryn in Tucson.
