The Kitchener Rangers have replaced one of their overage players after a pair of swaps today.
Rangers general manager Mike McKenzie started by dealing overage defenceman Doug Blaisdell to the Sudbury Wolves for a conditional fourth round pick in 2020 around noon.
About an hour later he followed that up by acquiring 20-year-old forward Kole Sherwood from the Flint Firebirds for two second round draft picks (2019, 2020), a third (2021) and a fifth (2020).
Sherwood had 33 goals and 53 assists for the Firebirds last season. The Columbus Blue Jackets prospect was assigned to the OHL this past weekend but has yet to play due to a high ankle sprain.
The Ohio native spent one season with the London Knigths – who play the Rangers Friday – before being traded to Flint last season.
Blaisdell was Kitchener's third round pick in 2013 and was enjoying a steady season after missing most of last season with knee and shoulder injuries. The Dearborn Heighs, MI native has six goals and 19 assists in 202 games during his time with the Rangers.
The Rangers are deep on defence and have been rotating their sixth spot between rookies Jack York and first rounder Grayson Ladd.
