Hello Earth to Joel... The problem IS the personal automobile and the solution is not just to put more of them on the road.

How can anyone take this person seriously???

John Spragge

How can anyone take a car dealer calling for the completion of the Spadina expressway seriously? Easy... they want affordable housing, and no doubt they've read that in Detroit, a city with a fine set of expressways, you can buy a house for $5000.

It was interesting to read the comments after the article on the Toronto Star website. The vast majority were in favour of improvements in public transport. Joel's opinions got very little support in the comments.

Perhaps it is my imagination but it seems that there are fewer of the antibike rants and pro-car opinions being posted after transportation related articles than before.

Good point John. A friend of mine wrote a Geography thesis and came to the conclusion that the Spadina Expressway would have ruined the east side of downtown Toronto and he pointed to Cleveland OH as an example of what not to do.

  • North America is eventually going to figure out that, for all the right reasons, we need more bicycles on our roads. Dust off your bicycle and go cycling. And if the gas-burning dinosaurs start to crowd you, it's your road and you paid for it. Take the lane for yourself.
