Brilliant work from the cycling advisory committee. Good on the councillors for accepting the invitation, too. I'm sure the perspective will help clarify issues for them.

Yeah, that's huge. Great work cycling advisory committee! Creative, positive, and very helpful.

I wonder if this could be done in Waterloo (and Conestogo?) as well...

This was an excellent initiative for all involved. Congratulations to all who organized and participated! It would have been nice to see the Chief of Police out there. He could have viscerally seen why a comprehensive education program for all road actors, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, is required not just the car drivers. It would be wonderful if we could have a “Respect the lives of others at all times” campaign. I am hugely burned at the insensitive self centered ignoramuses who posted on the recent passing of Barrie Conrad before commenting was removed. Same applies to any tragic death. It is a clear indication of just how "out of touch" many road users are with what goes outside their sheet metal. Not a good sign for civil society at all. We are sorely in need of leadership towards a much more mutually respectful attitude to others on the road.

Good Job Mike & Duncan, lets hope the other two cities and the region pick up on this and do something.

About five years ago a group of councilors took to the streets of St. Catharines with a few cyclists to see what cyclists had to deal with...All the streets they considered unsafe then haven't changed at all today.

  • North America is eventually going to figure out that, for all the right reasons, we need more bicycles on our roads. Dust off your bicycle and go cycling. And if the gas-burning dinosaurs start to crowd you, it's your road and you paid for it. Take the lane for yourself.
